Best New Business Idea 2007

In February 2007 Andy Wogan was listening to Matthew Bannister’s morning show on Radio 5. For some weeks they had been running a competition which involved sending in an outline idea for a new business. Some were quite wacky, while others had a great deal of potential. Each week, three of the entrants were asked to put their idea forward, live on radio to be judged by well known entrepreneurs such as the late Anita Roddick of Body Shop fame.

The winner of each weeks show would then be entered in the final to be judged by Stelios of the Easy business empire. The winner would then meet Stelios in his London offices to discuss the idea and receive the benefit of his knowledge.

One of the entries was for a house sitting service, where the unemployed or elderly would be paid to wait in a house for a parcel. While there were many reasons why this business could not work it was close enough to Andy’s idea to spur him into entering. He won the competition out of nearly 800 entries and now edepots is a reality.
